Next Live Service:

New River Fellowship Church

Thirty Day Prayer Plan

30 Days of Prayer for the Search Committee and New Pastor at New River

For The Committee:

Day 1 – June 28

  • Pray for each committee member, by name, asking God to lead them by His Holy Spirit.
  • Rom 15:13 "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."
  • Jn 15:5 “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing."
  • Eph 5:18 "Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit"

Day 2 – June 29

  • Pray for powerful unity and oneness of spirit within the Committee.
  • Amos 3:3 "Can two people walk together without agreeing on the direction?"
  • Matt 18:19 "Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven."

Day 3 – June 30

  • Pray for God's clear direction during the process of collecting and examining resumes along with conducting interviews. Ask God to bring the right person to the committee’s attention.
  • Prov 14:12 "There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death."
  • Isa 55:8‐9 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways And My thoughts than your thoughts."

Day 4 – July 1

  • Pray for the Search Committee to have God's wisdom in all the questions they ask of the candidates and information they share with the prospective pastor.
  • 1 Cor 2:10‐16 "For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God, which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words. But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised. But he who is spiritual appraises all things, yet he himself is appraised by no one. For who has known the mind of the Lord, that He will instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ."

Day 5 – July 2

  • Pray for the Committee to have Godly wisdom as to the unique characteristics and traits most needed for our church.
  • James 1:2-6 "Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways."

Day 6 – July 3

  • Pray for the Committee to find God's perfect will regarding the prospective pastor, in God's perfect timing.
  • Eph 5:17 "Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is."

Day 7 – July 4

  • Pray for the prevention of Satan's influence in misleading or rushing the Search Committee.
  • Eph 6:10-12 "Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places."

Day 8 – July 5

  • Pray for God's guidance in how the future pastor is presented to the church.
  • 1 Cor 1:10 "I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought."
  • Acts 2:1 "When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place."

Day 9 – July 6

  • Pray that the pastor search Committee will place the needs of the church above their own individual desires.
  • Phil 2:3-11 "Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

For The Congregation:

Day 10 – July 7

  • Pray that the search period will be a time for the church to seek God’s will individually and for the church, more than just a new pastor.
  • Jer 29:13 "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."
  • James 4:8 "Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded."

Day 11 – July 8

  • Pray for a powerful move of renewal and revival within the congregation.
  • Ps 66:17-19 "I cried out to him with my mouth; His praise was on my tongue. If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened; but God has surely listened and has heard my prayer."
  • Ps 139:23‐24 "Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me and know my anxious thoughts; And see if there be any hurtful way in me, And lead me in the everlasting way."

Day 12 – July 9

  • Pray for strong consistency and focus in the present ministry of the church that it would be protected from any spirit of luke‐warmness or loss of our first love. Remind us that we serve Jesus, not a pastor.
  • Rev 2:1‐4 "‘I know your deeds and your toil and perseverance, and that you cannot tolerate evil men, and you put to the test those who call themselves apostles, and they are not, and you found them to be false; and you have perseverance and have endured for My name’s sake, and have not grown weary. ‘But I have this against you, that you have left your first love."
  • Rev 3:15 "I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other!"

Day 13 – July 10

  • Pray for a miraculous sense of love and unity among all members of the church. Help us surrender all bitterness, division and anger within our church family. Lord, empower us to love one another with a patient, forbearing love.
  • Jn 13:34 "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another."
  • Jn 17:21 "That all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me."
  • Eph 4:31 "Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice."

Day 14 – July 11

  • Pray for great unity in calling the new pastor. Lord, help us to receive him and his family with deep love and renewed commitment. Grant us a powerful sense of revival and spiritual awakening as we move into the future. Pray for grace, guidance and strength for the church from which our new pastor comes.
  • Jn 17:21 "That all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me."
  • 1 Cor 1:10 I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.

Day 15 – July 12

  • Pray that we be prepared to make the necessary changes to embrace a new day of ministry. Lord, we understand that a new pastor always means changes. Help us to be prepared to change and grow with graciousness and unity.
  • Eph 4:1‐6 "Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing tolerance for one another in love, being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all."

Day 16 – July 13

  • Pray that we will patiently await God's timing and settle for nothing less than His perfect will. Ask God for His mercy in giving us a true man of God and a great leader.
  • Heb 6:11-12 "And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence so as to realize the full assurance of hope until the end, so that you will not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises."
  • 2 Corn 6:6 "We prove ourselves by our purity, our understanding, our patience, our kindness, by the Holy Spirit within us, and by our sincere love."

Day 17 – July 14

  • Pray that the church members will set aside individual expectations for the new pastor and decide in unity whom God is calling to lead our church.
For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."

Day 18 – July 15

  • Pray that we would not make decisions based on previous experiences with previous pastors. Pray that all would be receptive to God beginning a new work in the congregation.
  • Isa 42:9 "See, the former things have taken place, and new things I declare; before they spring into being I announce them to you."
  • Ez 36:26 "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh."

Day 19 – July 16

  • Pray that the church as a whole would trust the Pastor Search Committee through the process of finding a new pastor. Pray that the congregation would trust that the Committee is being led by the Spirit as they conduct this search on the part of the Church.
  • Heb 13:17 "Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you."

For The Prospective Pastor:

Day 20 – July 17

  • Pray that God would increase the prospective pastor’s passion for preaching the Word of God.
  • 2 Tim 4:1-5 "I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths. But you, be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry."

Day 21 – July 18

  • Pray that God would give our next pastor a love for our church and strength to make a decision to accept the offer.
  • Phil 1:3-11 "I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always offering prayer with joy in my every prayer for you all, in view of your participation in the gospel from the first day until now. For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus. For it is only right for me to feel this way about you all, because I have you in my heart, since both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers of grace with me. For God is my witness, how I long for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus. And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ; having been filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God."

Day 22 – July 19

  • Pray for our next pastor’s family. Pray that God would strengthen and guide the new pastor’s family as they are led toward ministry at our church.
  • Col 1:9-12  "For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light."

Day 23 – July 20

  • Pray that God would prepare our next pastor to better shepherd our flock through any current trials and blessings he is experiencing.
  • Rom 12:9-13 "Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor; not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer, contributing to the needs of the saints, practicing hospitality."
  • 2 Tim 4:2 "Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage--with great patience and careful instruction."

Day 24 – July 21

  • Pray for the future pastor and his family to have absolute certainty in their sense of calling to our church. He must know God's direction.
  • Rom 12:1-2 "Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect."

Day 25 – July 22

  • Pray for God's strength and guidance in the pastor's former church. Pray that those with whom he is currently ministering would trust God’s plan for his servant in leading him to a new location of ministry.
  • 2 Cor 12:9-10 "And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong."

Day 26 – July 23

  • Pray that the new pastor will have a clear vision for how to minister to the people of our church and the surrounding community.
  • Proverbs 29:18 "Where there is no revelation, people cast off restraint; but blessed is the one who heeds wisdom's instruction."

Day 27 – July 24

  • Pray that the new pastor and his family will be able to smoothly transition to our church. This would include the needs of his wife and children in making new friends. Also involved would be physical needs such as housing, schooling, etc. that must be settled upon moving to a new area.
  • Luke 12:22-31 "And He said to His disciples, For this reason I say to you, do not worry about your life, as to what you will eat; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing. Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap; they have no storeroom nor barn, and yet God feeds them; how much more valuable you are than the birds! And which of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life’s span? If then you cannot do even a very little thing, why do you worry about other matters? Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; but I tell you, not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass in the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, how much more will He clothe you? You men of little faith! And do not seek what you will eat and what you will drink, and do not keep worrying. For all these things the nations of the world eagerly seek; but your Father knows that you need these things. But seek His kingdom, and these things will be added to you. Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has chosen gladly to give you the kingdom."

Day 28 – July 25

  • Pray that the new pastor would be able to work effectively with church staff and other leaders that are already serving at our church.
  • Ps 133 "How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron’s beard, down on the collar of his robe.  It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the Lord bestows his blessing, even life forevermore."

Day 29 – July 26

  • Pray that God would protect the new pastor’s heart as he prepares to leave his current ministry and move to a new ministry. Pray that the stresses of moving, meeting new people, maintaining relationships etc. would not interfere with his need to continually develop his personal relationship with God.
  • Josh 1:8-9“This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success. “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

Day 30 – July 27

  • Above all, pray that God’s will would be done through the entire process of finding a new pastor for Our Church. Pray that the Holy Spirit will give everyone involved in this process wisdom, peace and a deep sense of unity. Pray that God will very clearly and very specifically guide us to whom He is calling to serve as pastor.
  • Col 3:12-17 "So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience;bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father."
